Adrian Chiles, 53, made a documentary for the BBC called Drinkers Like Me a few years ago. However, the presenter has admitted this has led to some unfortunate repercussions whenever he visits the pub.

The broadcaster has admitted whenever he tries to enjoy a pint, he’s approached by fans.

This is because they think he’s an alcoholic following his powerful documentary.

According to the Daily Star, he said: “Apart from having to talk about it all the time, which is one aspect of that.

“Because people can’t get into their heads this idea of moderation.

“If you come out and say you’ve got ‘a problem’ with alcohol it is the widely held assumption that the only way to deal with it is to stop completely.

“So at no time in the programme did I say I was going to stop – I said I’m going to moderate.”

Adrian explained in an interview with The Moon Under Water podcast, how this means he’s often approached.

He continued: “You know, the amount of times with a pint in my hand and they go, ‘Oh, you’re back on it then.’

“People come up to me, just hold my arm and say, ‘Good luck with your battle, good luck with your struggle.’ And they mean it nicely.

“So there’s that aspect of it and I just say, ‘Look, I’m just drinking less’ and they go, ‘Yeah, yeah, whatever. We know.’

“I’ve got past getting annoyed about it.”

Viewers may remember the documentary Adrian presented looked at alcohol consumption.

During the BBC show, he found out he was drinking well over the recommended units.

The NHS advises not drinking more than 14 units per week, but Adrian said he was drinking 100 on some weeks.

Adrian is currently stepping in for Naga Munchetty on her BBC Radio 5 Live show from Monday to Wednesday.

The former The One Show presenter has taken over while Naga goes on holiday.

Naga confirmed her break in Wales on Twitter recently as she shared an update from a local restaurant.

Alongside a dessert on the table, she praised an eatery for her meal.

She penned: “So that’s how you finish a meal…@seahorsebistro.

The Seahorse is a seafood bistro and restaurant in Llandudno, Wales.
