Strictly Come Dancing star Aljaz Skorjanec has told how he didn’t watch spin-off show It Takes Two until his wife landed a presenting role on the BBC programme. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the Slovenian dance pro, 31, explained his hectic Strictly dance schedule meant he often took a “break” from practice instead of catching up on It Takes Two, until his wife of four years Janette Manrara, 37, joined the programme earlier this year.
I’ll be honest, I never before really watched it
Aljaz, who is partnered with Sara Davies on Strictly, admitted that before Janette started hosting the programme this year, he didn’t make time to watch the talk show.
Earlier this year, Janette announced that she was leaving the popular BBC dance programme to join Rylan Clark-Neal as a presenter on It Takes Two.
Speaking about his wife’s new venture, Aljaz revealed that he now never misses an episode.
He said: “I watch her every time, every single day.
“I’ll be honest, I never before really [watched it].”
The star told how his gruelling Strictly schedule meant he would usually avoid tuning into the show.
“I haven’t, not that I don’t like it, I’ve always loved the show and loved doing it, but because of Strictly schedules, whenever you get a second you take a little break,” Aljaz explained.
“But I don’t think I’ve missed a show, but if I did I always watched it back.”
Aljaz went on to speak about Janette’s new role, hailing her as a natural on the talk show.
He said: “I love her and I think she looks so comfortable, she looks like she’s been doing it for years.
“It’s just a testimony to her really, like Sara [Davies] was just saying, if you’re in the moment and your present, and apply yourself to whatever you’re doing, it just shows that you can do anything, you can even achieve your dreams.”
Janette and Aljaz were professional dancers on Strictly together for eight years before she announced her departure.
Speaking about whether his wife would ever make a return to the Strictly dance floor again, Aljaz admitted that it had never been ruled out.
He said: “Look, I don’t know, I just think that whatever she’s going to do she’s going to be brilliant at it.
“I think she bought so much into Strictly from her choreography to her dedication as a pro.
“She brought this whole aspect to the show eight years ago and she’s such a beautiful dancer as it is.”
Aljaz went on to say that Janette looks “at home” on It Takes Two, before saying that he’ll support her in whatever she decides.
“So I don’t know, one day, but I think if she keeps smashing the presenting role, I think she’s really happy with what she’s doing at the moment and whatever she decides to do I’m going to be her number one fan,” he gushed.
“But I don’t know, but she looks very at home on It Takes Two and I don’t want to change that,” he added.
Strictly Come Dancing continues at 6.45pm on Saturday on BBC One.
