Duchess Meghan’s estranged father, Thomas Markle, is continuing his public plea to be involved with the royal family, lamenting in a new interview that he has not been allowed to meet his grandson.
Markle has been vocal about his attempts to contact his daughter since missing her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2017. In a new interview with the Daily Mail, he expressed how he wishes to reconnect with the royal couple so he could meet baby Archie.
“I would like them to send me a picture of Archie so I can frame it and put it on my wall beside the one of Meghan,” Markle said. “Isn’t that what any grandfather would want? I’d love to know if he’s got the famous Markle nose.”
Markle told the outlet there “was never any problem” between father and daughter “until recently.” He said in July that Duchess Meghan removed him from her life after he staged paparazzi pictures before the royal wedding. He’s also repeatedly been quoted speaking critically of the royal family.
“I’ve stayed quiet because Meghan was pregnant with Archie but I’m speaking out now because they and their PR people are continuing to ghost me out of her life,” he added. “Of course I’m disappointed not to see Archie. I had hoped becoming a mother would mellow Meghan and she would reach out.”
‘This can’t continue forever’: A heartsick Thomas Markle begs Duchess Meghan to reach out
Speculation swirled ahead of Meghan and Harry’s wedding over whether or not her father would attend. She finally revealed he would not be coming, and he later told TMZ it was due to a heart attack he suffered from recent stress over paparazzi coverage.
He told the Daily Mail he texted both Meghan and Harry after the heart attack, but she’s “never once… asked me how I’m doing. Not then, not since.”
Markle also said he mailed his daughter a card last month for her birthday last month, but “received no acknowledgement” and isn’t sure if it was actually delivered. Despite criticizing her , he says he still believes “family differences” between himself, Meghan and Harry can be resolved.
“Sometimes I get the feeling people think I don’t love my daughter. I do love her very much,” he said. “I would love nothing more than to put a picture of Archie in a frame and place it beside the one of Meghan.”
