The popular pastor is based in New York, far from the Calabasas Hillsong-goers, including Justin and wife Hailey Bieber, Kourtney Karadshian and Kendall Jenner, who frequent his sermons on the west coast.

The 41-year-old father-of-three talked about the deadly outbreak with fellow pastor Judah Smith of Churhome, saying he was feeling better now.

‘I started feeling so bad,’ Carl explained. ‘I got my test. It came back positive.’

He continued: ‘I’m fine. I’m good…Let me tell you something. It is definitely real… the symptoms are so real. It’s kind of like a flu times 50…still don’t feel like myself…I look forward to getting my energy back.’

Carl has a famously close relationship with celebrities, having baptised superstar Justin in the bath of his home – while, similarly, Judah Smith married Justin and Hailey in their South Carolina nuptials last year.

Speaking about his symptoms further, Carl continued: ‘My breath is a lot shorter. Fatigue is a lot quicker. My advice to people is try to take this as seriously as you can.’

However, he wanted to share an uplifting message to anyone else who had also come down with the condition, as he insisted: ‘You are not alone.

‘I’m praying that we find something that eradicates this thing completely. That’s my hope.’

The church has closed its NYC doors and went online for its services from 15 March, as cities went into lockdown to try and stop the spread of coronavirus.

The Hillsong NYC team held previously a gathering to tape an online service, with 200 gathered – it’s not known how many have tested for coronavirus.

Another Hillsong pastor, John Termini, confirmed he was self-isolating and said it’s ‘highly likely’ he’s also contracted the virus. While NBA star Kevin Durant, who attends Hillsong in New York, tested positive for Covid-19 recently.

New York City has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic, with more than than 25, 600 cases of coronavirus and 210 deaths as of Tuesday, according to The New York Times.
