The Apprentice star Karren Brady, 52, has aired her views on reports that there is “tension” behind-the-scenes between Rachel Riley, 35, and new Countdown host Anne Robinson, 77. Karren began by comparing the situation to her experience on BBC’s The Apprentice alongside Lord Sugar and Claude Littner, as she insisted in her latest column: “I can honestly say that my co-presenters have become a bit like family to me.

“We enjoy working with each other, enjoy each other’s company — and even go on holiday together.

“Given how much time you spend filming when you commit to a show, it is beyond me why anyone would agree to be part of one with someone they don’t like.”

The businesswoman continued: “Really, a TV show is no different from any office.

“We all work with people, some more annoying than others, and you have to be professional and unemotional and rise above those things that you might find annoying.

“Everyone needs to be seen and heard and everyone needs to be respected.

“There is no good throwing your weight around.”

“This is not the way to run any organisation, office or TV show,” Karren said.

Karren went on to argue that Anne should be making “all the effort” with her new co-stars after joining the  Channel 4 programme this year when former Apprentice star Nick Hewer, 77, stepped down from his role on Countdown after a decade.

She pointed out: “As a new person on a TV show, as Anne is here, the onus is on you to make all the effort to fit in, make people feel at ease, get to know people, give them your time and listen to them.”

Karren went on to tell The Sun that she feels sorry for the “poor backroom team and producers” at Countdown, due to the rumours.

She added: “It’s the poor backroom team and producers I feel sorry for.

“A show is hard enough work without having to deal with all that grief.”

It comes after it was recently reported that there is an “awkward and uncomfortable atmosphere” between Anne and Rachel on the set of Countdown due to a “young and old divide”.

Speaking to MailOnline, a source said: “The tension between Rachel and Anne is being openly discussed.

“It is very much Rachel and Susie against Anne – a case of two camps.”

The insider also claimed lots of crew members have been discussing what has been going on backstage.

“Anne likes to do things her way, while Rachel doesn’t go along with how she operates,” they claimed.

“This has now led to little social interaction between them away from the cameras.”

Express.co.uk has contacted representatives for Rachel Riley, Anne Robinson, Susie Dent and Countdown for comment on the feud rumours.

Rachel will be taking some time away from Countdown, as she has just gone on maternity leave.

The small-screen star is set to welcome her second child with her husband Pasha Kovalev any day now.
