Kate Garraway is getting extra help from her ITV co-star and pal Dr Hilary Jones while her husband Derek Draper remains in hospital.

Derek, 53, was admitted into hospital with coronavirus back in March. He was put into a medically-induced coma and has beaten the disease but remains there following complications.

Now, ITV chat show host Lorraine Kelly has opened up on how Kate, 53, has received help behind-the-scenes at the studio from their co-star and pal Dr Hilary Jones, 67.

Lorraine, 61, who recently announced Ranvir Singh is replacing her for the first half of this week, explained that the doctor has given Kate some good advice with empathy.

"He is a very special man,” she added.

Dr Hilary isn't the only person from ITV she's had help from in the past few months though as her co-star Ben Shephard has had a large role to play in ensuring she and her kids Darcey, 14, and Billy, 11, are hanging on.

Speaking exclusively to OK! online, Kate said 46 year old Ben has been "phenomenal".

"For 20 years, Ben has had to do so much for me, but this year has been another level. He has been at the end of the phone and trying to do everything that he can to help. To be serious for a minute, it has been a huge pressure on him.

"Working alongside somebody that you care for and you are worried about, plus also trying to do the job. It’s a huge thing and I’m very grateful that he has been there and I’m aware how tough it’s been for him. He has been amazing."

Ben then added: "I drive home from work every day past the space where I spoke to Kate and she told me that Derek had been taken to hospital.

"I had stopped for a tyre change, and every day I drive past the tyre shop, I think back to that moment when we were talking about Derek first going into hospital. It feels like a lifetime ago now.

"I genuinely can’t explain my pride, admiration and love for what Kate has been through, and Bill and Darcey, and how remarkable she has been in juggling the number of different factors."

He added: "There’s not a day when I don’t think about her and whether I can do something to help her. We all want to know what the outcome is going to be and that is the hardest thing, not knowing. In 2021, I will undoubtedly be more optimistic and positive, because of my friendship with Kate and how much I admire her."
