Martin Lewis, 48, is best known for offering money advice on his show, in appearances on This Morning and via Twitter to his followers. However, the star has also revealed he was invited to appear before the House of Lords earlier today – but it didn’t go entirely to plan.

Martin told his 1.1 million followers on Twitter how he was invited to appear in front of the House Of Lords.

He wrote: “I’ve been invited to give evidence at 2pm this afternoon to the @UKHouseofLords liaison committee on Financial Exclusion.”

However, later in the day the money-saving expert confirmed everything had not gone to plan, admitting he had a “nightmare”.

Martin tweeted: “Phew. The session is over. Lords do always ask good questions.

“I had a nightmare at the start though couldn’t get in the zoom.

“Rather frustrating but we got there in the end.”

Many of Martin’s followers empathised with the difficulty of technical issues during lockdown.

Replying to his tweet, one wrote: “Bloody internet.”

While another joked with the presenter, asking: “Did you show up as a cat?”

A third added: “1st world 2021 nightmare – Zoom not working”

Some of his other followers also thanked him for taking part in the important session as well.

“Great evidence session. Thanks for sharing your expertise,” tweeted one.

Martin has also been sharing more advice with his followers today.

He also shared a link to his website, explaining how university fees work when you take out loans.

He said: “Why, with student loans, what you borrow is most IRRELEVANT.,, (sic) It’s what you earn after that counts.”

Martin is also well known for appearing on The Martin Lewis Money Show Live.

This airs on Thursdays at 8.30pm on ITV and he presents alongside Angellica Bell.

The pair recently asked followers if they wanted to appear on this week’s show in an appeal for a story.

They tweeted: “We’re looking for households to join our video wall on this week’s show.

“If you’ve successfully followed one of Martin’s tips & saved large we want to hear from YOU!”
