This Morning host Phillip Schofield, 58, was joined by his co-star Holly Willoughby, 39, earlier this week on the ITV programme. After the presenting duo returned from the ad-break, Phillip suggested that the studio had become infested with flies.

It comes after Holly complained that a fly was buzzing around the studio and was a distraction for the pair while they presented.

This led Phillip to cheekily joke if any members of the crew were missing, suggesting that the flies could be buzzing around because of a body lying somewhere in the studio.

The presenter also claimed there was a “funny smell” lurking in the building.

It comes as Holly and Phil returned from the ad-break and the pair were not looking at the camera.

Both were focused on a cactus plant which was sitting on the coffee table in front of them.

“It’s very clever,” Phillip said. “I’ve got to say it’s incredibly clever.”

“There’s a fly in here,” Holly explained.

Phillip went on to explain that there was more than one fly hanging around the studio.

Holly added: “It’s a real showbiz fly because every time we go on air, literally the countdown and there it is and it gets in set and in shot.”

“It’s like a jungle,” she quipped.

The mum-of-three confessed she didn’t know what happened over the weekend to cause the infestation.

Phillip then quizzed staff on any “missing” members of the crew that he should know about.

He joked: “There’s quite a lot of [flies].

“We’re not missing any member of the crew. There’s no man down somewhere over the weekend.”

Phillip continued: “There’s a funny smell. I don’t know what it is.

“‘Have you seen Tom?’ ‘No, I haven’t seen him for ages’.”

Meanwhile, Holly has sparked concern from This Morning viewers after the presenter did not appear on the show for the second day running.

She did not appear as planned on Wednesday so guest presenter Alison Hammond filled in.

When Holly was absent again yesterday, Davina McCall stepped in to host alongside Phillip.

He later explained: “Holly’s having a day off. She’s back on Monday.”
