Snow Patrol Cancel Shows As Guitarist Experiences Serious Neck Problem

Jun 28, 2019

Rock band Snow Patrol announced they have been forced to cancel several upcoming shows, including their performance at the Glastonbury Music Festival this weekend.

Snow Patrol revealed in a statement on their website that they are canceling shows from June 28 through July 20 due to piano and guitar player Johnny McDaid facing a serious problem with his neck that requires immediate surgery.

“As for the upcoming shows: to replace Johnny it would take at least two people and with Nathan [Connolly] still out with nerve damage (he is slowly on the mend) he is also still unable to play guitar we feel it’s just not appropriate to continue with shows at this stage,” frontman Gary Lightbody wrote.

He added, “It isn’t just their guitars and pianos that would be missed. Their backing vocals are essential to our sound and their energy and spirits are colossal and are irreplaceable forces.”

However, Connolly is expected to recover within a span of four weeks, meaning that fans may yet be able to witness the band’s upcoming tour of Asia, Australia and New Zealand in August.
