Taylor Swift may be the next celebrity to get a rise out of President Trump.
During her acceptance speech for Video of the Year at the MTV Video Music Awards, Swift took the opportunity to directly call out the Trump administration for declining to acknowledge a petition supporting the the Equality Act for LGBTQ rights.
Swift launched the petition earlier this year alongside her music video for “You Need to Calm Down,” which took home multiple awards Monday night.
“It now has half a million signatures, which is five times the amount that it would need to warrant a response from the White House,” Swift said before pointedly looking at an imaginary wristwatch.
Swift was joined onstage at the Prudential Center by a number of LGBTQ friends, many of whom appeared in the video, as well as co-director Todrick Hall.
Fans were quick to take to Twitter to laud Swift’s message: “Oh snap, Taylor Swift just called you out sis,” one user tweeted at the official White House account, while another quipped, “She’s coming for you, Trumpster.”
President Trump’s administration has faced criticism for rolling back gay rights protections, many of which were put in place during the Obama era.
