The Chase star Darragh Ennis has paid tribute to a former contestant who tragically passed away earlier this week.

In a post shared by the show's official Instagram account on Tuesday, it was revealed that Mike Johnson had died.

"We are deeply saddened by the news that Mike Johnson has passed away," the statement read, alongside an image of him on the show.

"A fantastic Beat the Chasers and Chase contestant, our thoughts are with Mike's family and friends at this very difficult time.

"Bradley, the Chasers and production loved meeting and spending time with Mike and making him part of the Beat The Chasers & The Chase family.

Taking to his Twitter account shortly after the sad news was announced, Darragh wrote: "Such a sad loss. A really fun and entertaining contestant."

Mike appeared on The Chase as well as spin-off Beat The Chasers.

He told host Bradley Walsh that he was hoping to win money to visit his mother in Trinidad and also treat his five year old daughter to some goodies.

His cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Other fans of the show also took to social media to pay their tributes to Mike.

"He was a fantastic contestant, condolences to his family, Rest In Peace, Mike," one person wrote.

Another added: "I remember when he was a contestant on the chase he was on of my favourite ones and his voices were amazing I'm sorry to hear this."

A third added: "That's so sad, he was an amazing contestant on both the chase and beat the chasers and one I'll never forget. My thoughts are with his family and friends."

"Condolences to his family and friends," another devasted fan added.
