Drinking energy drinks accelerates hair loss for men, study finds

Drinking a certain beverage regularly could make men's hair fall out quicker, a study has revealed.

According to The Sun, medics uncovered it was 30% more likely in men who regularly guzzled down energy drinks, together with sweetened coffee and tea.

Experts at Tsinghua University in Beijing also discovered drinking fizzy drinks and sports drinks put people at greater risk of the problem.

In the journal Nutrients, they claimed the men were regularly consuming something between one and three litres of these drinks per week.

Those who drank more than one sweetened drink each day were said to be in with a greater 42% chance of experiencing hair loss in comparison to those who didn't touch the beverages.

Men who confessed they experience hair loss admitted they consume 12 sweetened drinks a week on average.

Experts looked into the habits of over 1,000 Chinese men between the ages of 18 to 45, and studied them over a four month period.

Within this time they had to log their eating habits, as well as the background surrounding their mental health.

But it wasn't just the drinks that studied, as it was also revealed men who chomped on higher values of fast food and ate few vegetables also experienced hair loss at a more rapid pace.

In addition, those who have been known to experience anxiety were said to be at greater risk.

It's been well noted in the past that experts claim the secret to maintaining lovely locks is following a healthy diet.

London-based dermatologist, Dr Sharon Wong, told The Sun: "Hair follicle cells are the second fastest dividing cells in the body and require all the nutrients of a well-balanced healthy diet.

"This includes lean proteins, good carbohydrates and fats, vitamins and minerals, but there is no one superfood for hair.

"As hair is not an essential structure for survival, the body does not prioritise the use of nutrients for hair growth.

"Nutritional deficiencies and crash diets are a common cause of hair thinning and shedding."
