The bidding site, eBay, is full of commemorative coins which often get put up for sale. Coin collectors hoping to grab a deal might be able to find one on the site, but they should also watch out for more expensive listings. Recently, a Peter Rabbit 50p coin was uploaded by the seller “olivelewer-sotirio_0”. The coin was put on sale for much more than face value, but is it worth it?
Produced in the year 2017 as seen in above photos, making it a rare and very valuable product.
The eBay user uploaded the fifty pence piece accompanied by three pictures of it.
They wrote: “Mint condition ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit’ 50p coin. Produced in the year 2017 as seen in above photos, making it a rare and very valuable product.
“Got this when it first came out and has been on display ever since.”
The seller then went on to to say the coin is a “very reliable investment” as well as speculating the value will go up even more.
Those wanting the coin have been asked to pay the Buy It Now price of £2100, but they are also open to taking offer.
The coin on offer is the Peter Rabbit 50p from the 2017 batch of Beatrix Potter commemorative coins.
First released in 2016, new versions of the coins have been brought out each year to celebrate the birth of the children’s author.
Although these coins may be interesting to a lot of people, they are not necessarily worth a lot of money.
According to the coin website, Change Checker, the fifty pence has a mintage of 19,300,000.
It ranks as one on the Scarcity Index, which makes it common.
What’s more, the coin magazine, Spend It? Save It? What Should You Do? have given the coin a fairly low valuation.
Despite the whopping asking price, they have said the coin is worth just £4.
Those hoping to get their hands on one of the coins could be better shopping around to ensure they get the best deal.
A Paddington Bear 50p coin recently sold for £1000 although it is estimated to be worth just £5.
A 2019 Sherlock Holmes 50p coin was selling for £1400 but is likely to be worth much less.
