DEAR DEIDRE: MY girlfriend has split up with me and I am worried her disabled daughter will think I have walked away from her.
I was seeing my girlfriend for a year. She is 37, I’m 40, her little girl is six and has cerebral palsy.

Her daughter is really cute and we formed a close bond.
After her mum wanted to split up with me I found out she had secretly been seeing her daughter’s father.
Her daughter was always excited to see me and I loved spending time with her. I called my ex a few weeks ago just to see how her daughter was but she hung up and I think she has blocked me.
I want to get on with my life but I can’t let go of the bond I had with her little girl.
DEIDRE SAYS: I really do understand your good intentions but the father may want to re-establish his family without reminders of how they split.
Try writing to your ex, to say you want her daughter to know that you still love her, but accept that she must do what she feels best for her child.
My e-leaflet Moving On can help you come to terms with losing them from your life and to network with friends for the future.
