McDonald’s outline new safety measures as restaurants reopen
KFC and Burger King have had a hard time throughout the last 10 months, with restaurants forced to close on and off. The UK is now in its third national lockdown and Brits are deprived of trips to their favourite eateries. Is KFC and Burger King open in the new lockdown?
The new lockdown rules state that non-essential businesses must close in order to “reduce social contact.”
Only businesses and venues which provide essential goods and services can stay open, and going out for a burger and chips doesn’t sound too necessary.
The list of businesses that must close includes restaurants like KFC and Burger King.
The rules state that hospitality venues such as “cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars and social clubs” must close.

However, it stresses that this does not include those “providing food and non-alcoholic drinks for takeaway, click-and-collect and drive-through” until 11pm.
The guidances adds that all food and drink can continue to be provided by delivery.
In previous lockdowns Burger King and KFC have been able to operate via Drive Thru and takeaway, but can they do the same this time?
Is KFC open in lockdown?
KFC restaurants are closed for business until further notice, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on your Family Bucket or Popcorn Chicken.
The official KFC Twitter page tweeted an announcement on New Year’s Eve.
It says: “You probably saw the news yesterday. Measures and restrictions changing all over the place as we head into the New Year.
“Tricky end to a challenging year. But even amidst the changes, we just wanted to let you know that we’re still at the fryers, ready to see in your 2021 with a bucket or two of the Colonel’s finest.”

It goes on to state that dine-in is not available at any KFC in the UK, but restaurants are open for Takeaway and Drive-Thru.
Many but not all KFC restaurants are offering delivery or collection via the KFC app.
There are 900 KFC restaurants in the UK, so if your nearest doesn’t offer delivery you can probably pick your meal up from the next nearest.
You can also order KFC via your favourite delivery site, Deliveroo, Just Eat or Uber Eats.
Is Burger King open in lockdown?
Just like KFC, Burger King is also closing its restaurants for lockdown.
However, you can still order via drive-thru, delivery, click and collect or takeaway.
The Official Burger King Twitter account tweeted: “As we speak, in most of our restaurants up and down the UK, our broilers are firing up, ready to flame-grill our Whoppers for you to enjoy.
“We have put measures in place to ensure the safety of our customers and staff in-line with government guidance.
“This hasn’t been an easy time for anyone, and we’d like to ask you to be patient with our staff who are doing their best to make sure you can still have the Whopper your way, just from a (social) distance.”
You can order Burger King on Just Eat, Deliveroo, or Uber Eats.
