DEAR DEIDRE: I CANNOT get an erection so have given up even looking for a relationship.

I am 45 and also have Type 2 diabetes.

I’ve been told I need hormone replacement (HRT) therapy but don’t know how to get that.

The thought of never having sex again makes me feel so down.

Worrying about physical problems is taking over my life.

When I think about even just talking to a woman, I remember I am impotent and it all gets too embarrassing.

DEIDRE SAYS: Whoever said you need HRT was probably referring to testosterone levels.

It is not something to embark upon without a test showing your level is low.

Ask your GP for a test – but the best step is likely to be going on the NHS diabetes diet programme, which helps many people reverse the disease.

It is good for your all-round health too.

Find support through Diabetes UK (0345 123 2399, diabetes.org.uk) and check out my support pack on Solving Erection Problems for advice.
