While we check our watches and clocks non-stop to see if time is inching any closer to 9pm so we can get our Love Island fix, the situation is very different for the contestants.

The stars of the show can’t tell the time, no, really! There are no clocks or watches or ways to check what time it is inside the villa, so they’re left clueless about what time of the day it is throughout the experience.

Love Island alum Michael Griffiths explained to GQ: “You never know what the time is.

“They'll wake you up by putting the lights on or a voiceover will say ‘Islanders, it's time to get up’.”

Taking to extreme measures, Michael even decide to try and make a sundial during his 2019 villa stint in a bid to try and find out what time it was.

That isn’t the only bizarre rule in the Love Island villa, though, with the stars also only allowed two alcoholic drinks per night and are given strict bedtimes.

Solo sex acts are also not permitted inside the villa as there are cameras everywhere.

Sex with another contestant is however allowed, if they’re not drunk and condoms are used at all times.

The contestants are provided with a phone by ITV2, but they are not allowed to take their personal phones in – as they can't have any contact with the outside world.

On top of this, they’re allowed no reading materials – including books or magazines.

Love Island stars are all issued with a handbook detailing the show’s rules.

They are encouraged to keep this on them at all times so they know they their behaviour is always in-line with the guidelines.

The hit show recently returned to screens and already has viewers hooked.

Since the start of the show, we asked OK! readers for your thoughts on Love Island 2021's launch episode.

We asked you who your favourite couple is, which Islander had made the best impression so far, and crucially, who bombshell Chloe Burrows should couple up with tonight.

The results are now in, with Kaz Kamwi and Toby Aromolaran tied with Jake Cornish and Liberty Poole for favourite couple, racking up 23% of the votes respectively.

However, most of you kept your options open and said that none of the couples stood out to you yet.
