McDonald’s has finally launched a meat-free burger that simulates the taste and feel of its famous beef burgers!
The McPlant Burger is a 100% vegan burger that is already on sale in other countries, but has finally landed in the UK.
As a fast food chain, McDonald’s already offered the veggie dippers as an option for its non-meat eating customers, but now they’ve partnered with American company Beyond Meat to create a burger which has the same texture and flavour as real beef.
The burger brand has spent the last three years researching and developing the plant-based offering in order to be able to match the burger as closely as possible with its regular cheeseburgers.
Even the vegan cheese slice was created with pea protein and rumoured to taste just like McDonald’s original cheese.
A McDonald’s spokesperson said the latest addition to the menu was “all about giving customers more choices” – and from this month you might be able to get your hands on one.
The impressive McPlant features a Vegan Sesame Bun, Mustard, Ketchup, Vegan Sauce, Fresh Onion, Pickles, Lettuce, Tomato and Vegan Cheese. It is cooked separately from other McDonald’s burgers and sandwiches using dedicated utensils.
Unlike some other plant-based offerings, the McPlant is fully accredited as vegan by the Vegetarian Society to ensure it meets the highest vegan standards.
That means that it never comes into contact with meat in the kitchens and it has separate cooking platforms, stations and storage areas.
The fast food chain has described the McPlant as delivering “our iconic taste in a sink-your-teeth-in (and wipe-your-mouth) kind of sandwich”.
The McPlant will be available in 10 restaurants in Coventry from 29 September as an initial roll out before 250 stores start selling the item in October.
From then, the McPlant will launch in all UK stores from January and, here’s the best part, it will become a permanent menu item from then on.
Never again will you have to miss out when your pals order a cheeky Maccies!
Michelle Graham-Clare, Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald’s UK and Ireland said: “We’re so pleased to be finally launching McPlant in the UK and Ireland. As with every McDonald’s offering, we take our time to ensure it meets the highest standards and is something that all our customers will enjoy.
“We are always looking for different ways to innovate and meet our customers’ needs, and with McPlant we have a delicious plant-based burger that will appeal to everyone.
“Whether you’re vegan or just fancy a plant-based patty, we’re confident you will enjoy the McPlant.”
The news comes just weeks after McDonald’s announced that it was launching its very own home delivery service in 900 restaurants.
You can order directly to your home using the free My McDonald’s app.
Previously, hungry Brits could only order a tasty Big Mac or Chicken Selects through the Uber Eats or Just Eat apps.
