The Watford striker, who was slashed in the face in a fight aged 20, joined a protest outside Parliament yesterday.

He wore a stab vest bearing the charity’s name in an echo of Stormzy at Glastonbury.

It follows a letter delivered to Downing Street with a manifesto on how to tackle knife crime.

Andre, now 28, said: “[Mr Johnson] probably won’t reply. He will never understand the struggle of being on a council estate, of living on benefits and being from broken homes, where your father’s gone or in jail.”

He said the Government was “brushing knife crime under the carpet”. He said: “As soon as someone new takes over and there’s a new government, there’s always something else going on – such as Brexit .”

One of the demands in our End The Knife Epidemic campaign is to see the reversal of cuts to youth services.

Andre said Tory cuts to youth services have “almost antagonised” the knife crime epidemic.
