However, Julia suggested that you remind yourself that you have most likely given gifts to many people throughout your life, and you don’t expect them to keep these presents forever.
She added that oftentimes, gift-givers don’t even remember the presents they gave you.
Julia notes that while you should be grateful your loved ones took the time and effort to gift you something, don’t assume that they want you to hold on to it until the end of time.

However, Julia revealed that many times people hold on to the shoes because they spent so much money on them and don’t want to admit your ‘poor decision.’
She suggested those struggling with this give themselves a break.
‘There’s hardly a person alive who hasn’t regretted a purchase,’ she explained.
Julia notes that the best course of action is getting rid of the boots and moving on.

Overall, the professional de-clutterer said that ‘guilt’ can lead you to filling you basement with someone else’s items.
And, the longer you hold on to it, the harder it will be to get rid of it.
She added: ‘If looking at that object makes you feel bad, get rid of it. Life is too short. You deserve to be surrounded by things that make you happy. ‘
