Join the Secret Elves to discover the best shopping deals and things to do this Christmas

This year Christmas will be extra special, because people will be allowed to form a bubble with their close family and friends.

Spending time with family feels more important than ever this year, which is why many shops have decided to close stores on Boxing Day.

Many shops have decided to give staff the day off on December 26 so they can take advantage of the Christmas bubble.

While this is an amazing gesture, it will change how you’ll do your Christmas shopping.

Boxing Day is usually the busiest day in retail, but many will no doubt be shopping online anyway this year.

Regardless, it’s something to keep in mind for if you run out of essentials on Christmas Day.

It’s a good idea to make sure you’re all stocked up for drinks, cheese and desserts before Boxing Day – or find out which stores remain open.

Supermarkets like Sainsbury’s and Morrisons will open, while others like Asda and M&S will close, as reported by Liverpool Echo.

Asda’s chief executive, Roger Burnley, said that workers have “all done an incredible job” serving customers and communities in what has been “a challenging year.”

He continued in his message to colleagues: “But it’s also been challenging from a personal perspective as we have not been able to spend time with our families and friends, which has been hard for us all."

Mr Burnley added: "This is of course our busiest time of year but it was important for us to give as many of you as possible the opportunity to spend this time with those loved ones that you may not have not seen for many months so, uniquely for this year, we will not reopen our stores until December 27.”
