Whether you’re here for it or not, two-tone hair is officially trending. And who better to pull off the controversial look than the queen of hair transformations herself, Miley Cyrus. If you follow the singer on social media, then you’ll know she’s recently ditched her iconic mullet for a platinum blonde lob with the underside dyed in a jet-black shade.
The star has been championing the look for a few months now, but gave her fans a closer look at her new hairstyle in a series of snaps shared to her Instagram account this week.
In the post that’s amassed over 1.6 million likes, Miley, 29, wears her two-tone hairstyle in a side parting, with her dark streaks peeping out from under her bleached blonde locks. Originally popular around 2010, the style is commonly referred to by stylists as the “peek-a-boo” trend.
As usual, the singer’s choice of hairstyle has gained a lot of attention, with beauty e-tailer LookFantastic reporting that Google searches for “two-tone hair” have risen by a whopping 733 per cent – alongside a 393 per cent increase in searches for “Miley Cyrus hair”.
Users on Twitter are also going wild for the look, with one person writing: “Miley Cyrus currently has two toned hair so does that mean we’re bringing that back bc if so, I’m calling my hair stylist immediately.”
The Midnight Sky singer isn’t the only star who’s embraced the contrasting colour trend in recent years. Dua Lipa, Rihanna and Bella Hadid are also known fans.
This hair trend is commonly created with the use of blonde and black dye, but if you’re looking for something even bolder, we suggest taking inspiration from Dua, who in the past has paired darker streaks with a vibrant flame-red hue on the top of her hair.
Bella, as per usual, has pushed the beauty boundaries even further by taking to Instagram donning a jet-black bob and a micro-fringe, with the tips of her hair dyed golden blonde.
Rihanna’s take on the trend has perhaps been the most extreme of them all. For a Valentine’s Day shoot for her lingerie brand Savage X Fenty, she looked almost unrecognisable, with her lengthy locks dyed in a daring red and black striped pattern.
The star’s look was seriously reminiscent of the old Myspace days, where “scene kids” would dye their hair in racoon-style patterns and tease their fringes to the heavens. Iconic.
While we’re happy to leave that particular beauty era in the past, thanks to these famous faces, two-tone hair is becoming ever so tempting.
