Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson were the creative geniuses behind ABBA, which formed in 1972. With their irresistible music, the band swept to international fame after their Eurovision win in 1974 and continued to top charts until it all suddenly ended in 1982. Why did they split up and what happened to the marriages of the two couples in the band?
Before the official craetion of the band, Agnetha Fältskog, one of the two lead singers, married Björn Ulvaeus in 1971. In 1978, Anni-Frid Lyngstad married Benny Andersson, with whom she had been in a relationship since 1969.
These relationships brought the band together at the start and lasted pretty much throughout the entirety of the band’s success.
However, as their marriages began to fall apart, the band struggled to create in the studio, while individual members also began to look for new personal and professional avenues in their lives.
