Ace Ventura 3 is in the works the production company behind the popular franchise revealed there will be a third movie.

It's been confirmed that the hotly anticipated third film is in the works with the Sonic the Hedgehog writers.

Fans are in for a treat as it's been revealed Ace Ventura will make a comeback with Amazon as a major motion picture.

It's yet to be confirmed whether Jim Carrey, who famously played the hilarious Pet Detective, will be reprising his iconic role.

Morgan Creek Entertainment, the production company behind Ace Ventura, revealed the exciting news to Park Circus.

They said: "We're pretty excited about our franchise developments with Exorcist and the Ace Ventura franchise – it's noticeable from the 3 million fans chatting on the official Facebook page for Ace Ventura that audiences are clamouring for a 3rd instalment… "

The company added that audiences have loved seeing classic characters return with brand new stories amid the coronavirus pandemic.

They added: "Ace Ventura will see a new day at Amazon as a major motion picture/theatrical with the Sonic the Hedgehog writers".

The film would see Carrey reunite with writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller, who worked with the comedian and Hollywood actor on Sonic last year.

Celebrity Insider previously suggested Jim Carey will hopefully return to the franchise, but perhaps to pass on the baton to a new character, possibly his son.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was released back in 1994 and the film catapulted Jim Carrey into the spotlight.

The film also starred Courtney Cox and Sean Young, and the movie grossed $107 million worldwide at the box office.

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls was released in 1995 and made a staggering profit of $212 million.
