Back in 2017, Andrea Bocelli performed a sensational version of Perfect with Ed Sheeran called Perfect Symphony for the latter’s album Divide. The Italian singer’s sons Amos and Matteo Bocelli were totally awe when Sheeran flew out to Tuscany to record with their father. A year later and Matteo sang a cover of the song with Andrea on BBC Radio 2, as he began duetting with his father live for the first time.
Now as Matteo is preparing to release his debut solo album this year, he told fans in a YouTube Q&A during lockdown last year how he hopes to collaborate with Sheeran himself.
The 23-year-old said: “I have many favourite singers. But, of course, I’ve always been attracted by the voice of Ed Sheeran.
“I’ve followed him since the very beginning of his career. One day it would be amazing to do [a collaboration with him].
“I had the chance to meet him and he’s a fantastic person. So humble…that’s another thing that really impressed me. So who knows? I hope in the future!”
Matteo then accepted a fan’s request right at the end of the Q&A to sing a solo version of Perfect while playing the piano.
Back in 2018, Andrea told Evening Standard of his son’s excitement of meeting Sheeran when they recorded together.
The 62-year-old said: “I had heard about him from my children because they are fans of his, so they told me a lot about him. It was Ed’s idea actually.
“The strange thing was that he really, really wanted me to sing on that particular song, with an operatic touch to it — something that he didn’t think was actually feasible. But he was so determined that he came all the way to my house. He came, and we did it.”
Andrea added: “The situation was very peaceful because I had my two sons with me who are great fans of his.
“So they were very excited and very happy to be able to listen to his voice live. It is a privilege and quite emotional to listen to a singer who sings live for you. My sons were in awe.
“And then he caught the last flight in the afternoon and just left. We have decided to meet again soon. Would we work together again? Who knows. You can never say for sure.”
Well late last year, Express.co.uk asked the Italian tenor about duetting with Sheeran again or even Sarah Brightman.

Andrea said: “Why not! If there is an opportunity, I’d take it with great pleasure.
“The artists mentioned are two giants of music… The Time to Say Goodbye duet with Sarah made a critical contribution to the international launch of my career.”
Time To Say Goodbye famously topped the charts all across Europe and is one of the best-selling singles of all-time with 12 million global sales.
The 62-year-old continued: “More recently, with Ed, we have established a very beautiful and creative collaboration.”
Comparing the two, Andrea added: “Those two voices provide two musical worlds very different from one another.
“But both duets triggered a special alchemy that allowed one to enhance the expressive qualities of the other.”
The tenor had duetted most recently with both Alison Krauss and Cecilia Bartoli for his new album Believe which is out now.
Matteo Bocelli’s debut solo album doesn’t have a release date just yet but he’s confirmed the record will be out in 2021.
