Craig Revel Horwood slammed by ex-Strictly pros for undermarking Roses dance

Dec 13, 2021

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has been criticised for "undermarking" contestant Rose Ayling-Ellis and her dance partner Giovanni Pernice during Saturday night's semi-final.

The popular EastEnders actress was almost awarded a full house of 10s for her dazzling Waltz to the song How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding, but hard to please Craig gave Rose a nine for her dance.

Craig's critique lead former Strictly professional's Ola and James Jordan to admit that they were "baffled" by his decision as they questioned his judging and capabilities.

Writing in their column for Hello magazine, James penned: "It was probably the best Waltz we have ever seen on Strictly. I do not understand where Craig was coming from with that nine.

"Rose may have had a tiny slip up with her footwork, but there are tiny imperfections in every routine – even ones that Craig has given tens for in the past."

Ola also said: "It was unfair to give her a nine when she delivered such a flawless performance. It was the dance of the night."

She also added that the pair share a special bond with one another that exudes through the screen.

The news comes after Craig recently made a dig at James and claimed he was "desperate" for his job but will "never get it".

A few weeks back, Dancing on Ice star James and wife Ola said in their Hello! column that Rose's performance was fairly "average".

But Craig jumped to the actress' defence and proclaimed "she is not average at all".

Speaking openly to Mirror he then made a remark towards James and said: "I think he is obviously just trying to make headlines and get a job as a judge.

"Oh my god, he has always wanted that. He's desperate for my job… but he'll never get it."

On Saturday night, Rose still managed to achieve the highest score for her dance of the season, despite Craig's score.

While giving feedback on her performance, judge Anton Du Beke was evidently moved by the couple's routine and said: "You're amazing".

Meanwhile, Craig confessed that it was "one of the most amazing waltzes I have seen".

Later on in the programme, the dancing duo received the perfect score for their Argentine tango to A Evaristo Carriego by Eduardo Rovira.

Rose and Giovanni ended up joint first place on the leaderboard alongside presenter AJ Odudu and her partner Kai Widdrington.

Unfortunately, CBBC host Rhys Stephenson and pro partner Nancy Xu lost their place in the competition on Sunday evening's show.
