Gavin and Stacey’s Melanie Walters is unrecognisable after having a glam makeover for her new role.

14 years after the hit TV show Melanie was transformed by her look from Stacey's mum Gwen into something more festive.

The Welsh actress is adored by fans after appearing as the omelette-loving Gwen West in the BBC sitcom.

The show ran for three series from 2007 until 2010 and was then rebooted in 2019 for a one-off special.

Since then, the 59-year-old looks unrecognisable after starring in Beauty and The Beast as Fairy Bon Bon.

Melanie wore a sparkling outfit with eye-popping green eyeshadow and bold pink lipstick.

She sported sequin jewellery and a feathered headband.

The actress completed the look with large pink sequinned fairy wings with a feather outline.

Melanie showcased her new look on Twitter by posting a video as she spoke about how hard the theatres have suffered during the Covid pandemic.

She said: "Heartbreaking that so many theatres are closing. I feel blessed and incredibly lucky to still be @FloralPavilion #BeautyAndTheBeast

"Fairy Bon Bon wishes you all a …" before the video played out: "Merry Christmas!"

Fans quickly reacted, with one gushing: "Aww u look incredible as ever plus I hope to meet ya one day soon before you go back to Wales as it would be a dream come true, plus would love a social distance photo."

Another posted: "Brilliant actress. Great show," before Melanie replied: "Thank you. Kind words indeed."

After Gavin and Stacey Melanie has reunited with her co-star Larry Lamb who played Gavin's dad Mick Shipman for the TV series Pitching In.

Joanna Page, 44, who plays Stacey in the hit BBC programme has insisted the cast are eager to resume their roles.

She previously told The Sun's TV Mag: "I think we all would, the whole of the cast would, because it’s such a joy to film and purely and selfishly just having a laugh together.

"Last time we thought it was completely and utterly over until we got a phone call from Ruth saying do you want to do a Christmas Special.

"So I haven’t heard anything at all, and I doubt that I will unless she phones me again to say fancy doing another special, or never phones about doing it!

"I have absolutely no idea if there will ever be another one or not."
