Jay-Z Had Jeezy's Back in a Fight Once: 'Hov Got Hands'

Oct 31, 2021

Jay-Z and Jeezy have been hardworking rappers in the music industry for two decades. Over the years, the two emcees have worked together as well as maintained a strong friendship that has stood the test of time.

Jay-Z and Jeezy’s relationship

Jay-Z and Jeezy have worked together on music in the past, most notably on the remix of Jeezy’s 2005 track “Go Crazy.”

But despite having a collaborative relationship, Jeezy admitted to TV One’s Uncensored that he and Jay-Z “rarely” discuss music. Instead, he insisted that their bond is built on a mutual respect and understanding since they both grew up in the streets. Jeezy looks up to Jay-Z as an OG.

“We both have old souls and we both came from the same struggle,” he said. “But the only thing is, his struggle started before mine, he started walking his path before me, so I have to look at somebody like that how I would look at somebody in the hood who was already getting money before I was. I was like, ‘How you do this and stay out [of prison]?’”

Jay-Z once backed up Jeezy in a fight

Jeezy went on to recall a time in Las Vegas when he saw Jay-Z stand up for him at a time when he needed it.

“A lot of people don’t know, we’ve been in some fistfights and everything!” he said. “Some things popped off in Vegas — God bless the dead, Shakir Stewart, my brother — and I gotta say, Hov got hands. ‘Cause me and him was getting down! Back-to-back, you know what I mean?!”

Jeezy knew Jay-Z was a real one because he didn’t leave his side. “I heard his assistant say, ‘Jay, get in the car!’ He was like, ‘I ain’t leaving Jeezy!’” he remembered. “I was like, ‘Yo, I rock with him.’”

Jay-Z has always had Jeezy’s back

That fight wasn’t the only time Jay-Z stood by his friend Jeezy. The Atlanta rapper also told Uncensored about a time in the early 2000s when his label left him and his team to fight for themselves as they were involved in a cocaine trafficking case. And while his label ignored him, Jay-Z reached out to Jeezy directly and invited him to his office to talk about his troubles.

“Right around the time we went on tour together, I had an incident. It happened with my whole crew getting locked up,” Jeezy recounted. “So for the rest of the tour, I was coming to do my show by myself. I had no stage manager, I had no manager, I had no nothing! It was just me. But he was like, ‘Yo, you need to talk?’ He did that a few times.”

“When I had some things going on in the street when everybody got indicted, the label turned their back on me; they wouldn’t pick up my calls. And Hov called me like, ‘Yo, you need to talk? Come to my office,’” he continued. “Of course I can’t say what he said, but I just walked out of there like, ‘That’s why I really rock with him.’”
