Jeremy Clarkson vents frustrations after being refused farm planning permissions

May 14, 2022

TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has vented his frustrations after being constantly refused planning permissions to make improvements to his Diddly Squat Farm.

The broadcaster, 62, appeared on Talk TV's The News Desk to speak about his farm in Oxfordshire, and the problems he has encountered when trying to make improvements, including a car park and a farm track – saying it is not just himself, but that farmers 'up and down the country' are saying 'the same thing'.

Jeremy claimed that whenever he wants to make improvements to his farm, the answer from the local council is a "no" about "everything," and then joked that he should "join the Masons" to receive approval.

He said: "Maybe I should buy an apron and join the Masons. I don’t know what you have to do, but I simply can’t get planning permission for anything, which is infuriating.

"But it’s not just me as it turns out. I thought it was, but farmers up and down the country are saying the same thing."

Jeremy added: "I haven’t been allowed to build a farm track. I haven’t been allowed to build a car park even though the locals are saying there’s too many people parking on the road.

"It just goes on and on and on. The council’s answer to everything is ‘no’."

However he added that it is not just himself who has encountered problems, saying: "it’s not just me as it turns out.

"I thought it was, but farmers up and down the country are saying the same thing."

The Grand Tour host bought the farm in 2008, and decided to try running it himself after the owner retired in 2019 – becoming the subject of the Amazon Prime series Clarkson's Farm.

Since then, the series has proved hugely popular with viewers, who have regularly queued outside the farm shop to buy products including jams and chutneys.

However, it has been reported that Jeremy Clarkson's neighbours have become frustrated by the number of shoppers who often queue for hours to buy the products.

They have also raised their concerns about the increase in traffic, with one resident reported as saying that it has had a "massively negative impact."
