Rachel Riley has confessed that she hasn't been able to bond with new Countdown host Anne Robinson as rumours of tension begin to mount

No nonsense Anne, 77, joined the Channel 4 programme earlier this year – replacing Nick Hewer on the daytime favourite.

Nick had been in the hosting chair for over a decade with Rachel working at his side since 2009.

Since the Weakest Link star had been appointed, much speculation had surfaced to suggest that there had been a rift between Rachel, Susie Dent and Anne.

Speaking about her new co-star, the super-brain wasn't exactly gushing with praise as she opened up about their relationship.

Speaking to the Press Association, she said: "We used to all be in the same room together but because of coronavirus everyone's off separately having their make-up done so we don't see each other as much."

She later added: "We've not really done much team bonding."

Rachel explained that her relationship with Nick had been totally different with the pair working together for many years.

The TV star went on: "Obviously, we had 10 years with Nick and we really knew each other. She is a completely different character."

Meanwhile, the MailOnline reported that there had been an "awkward and uncomfortable atmosphere" between Anne and Rachel on the set of Countdown.

It was believed that the feud had been ignited over a "young and old divide" between the pair.

The source told the publication: "The tension between Rachel and Anne is being openly discussed.

"Rachel and Susie don't care much for Anne and her rather grand ways and things have become pretty uncomfortable," added the insider.

It was evident from the offset that Anne had set her sights on shaking things up on the Channel 4 programme.

After it had been announced that the former game show host had been selected for the role, Anne explained that she had no time for "snowflakes" and admitted that not everyone would be her biggest fan.

Countdown airs weekdays at 2.10pm on Channel 4.
