Adele usually doesn’t sing folk songs; however, she performed a beautiful song written by Bob Dylan. During an interview, Adele revealed she had a strong reaction to the song when she first heard it. Subsequently, she dedicated a live performance of the track to one of her famous friends.

Most of Dylan’s most famous songs are from the 1960s and 1970s. Despite this, the prolific singer has graced his fans with numerous albums since then. He wrote one of his most enduring standards in the 1990s. Its’ been covered by Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Pink, Billy Joel, and others.

Dylan released the ballad “Make You Feel My Love” on the 1997 album Time Out of Mind. According to Rolling Stone, Adele was a big fan of the track. “I heard that song and I read the lyrics and they’re the most beautiful lyrics I’ve ever read or heard or sung,” Adele said at the time. “And they kind of summed up everything I’m trying to write in my songs about how I felt. It’s such a beautiful song.”

During an interview with The Face, Adele recalled performing “Make You Feel My Love” with British rapper Stormzy in the audience. “Jonathan, my manager, he came in when I was getting my make-up done in my dressing room,” she remembered. “He came in and was like, ​’ Stormzy’s here tonight.’ He knew that I would know who he was. He hadn’t blown up at this point. 

“[That night] I dedicated ‘Make You Feel My Love’ to him,” she said. “I just thought it was such a funny juxtaposition, especially with him being in grime and stuff like that and then me dedicating ‘Make You Feel My Love,’ which is a Bob Dylan ballad. He’s such a tender … He’s so … He came on holiday with me and some of my best friends last year.”

Dylan never released “Make You Feel My Love” as a single, and it did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Its parent album, Time Out of Mind, peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200, staying on the chart for 29 weeks. The Official Charts Company reports the album peaked at No. 10 in the United Kingdom. and stayed on the chart for eight weeks.

Adele’s rendition of “Make You Feel My Love” did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Despite this, its parent album, 19, reached No. 4 the Billboard 200, staying on the chart for 221 weeks. The Official Charts Company reports her version of “Make You Feel My Love” was far more popular in the U.K. It reached No. 4 in the U.K., while 19 reached No. 1 there. Whether performed by Dylan or Adele, the song remains a classic love ballad.
