You might not have noticed given that his music is constantly playing on the radio, but Drake hasn’t released an album in nearly a year and a half.
Over the past few months, the “In My Feelings” rapper has generally remained out of the public eye, only putting out a handful of singles and making a few public appearances, which might make you wonder when he plans on putting out a new album. The good news is that it might happen really soon.
Drake’s new album is reportedly coming soon
On Sept. 6, Universal Music France had its yearly “Open Session” in Paris, where the company announces its list of upcoming albums. During the event, executives reportedly announced that Drake will release an album in November. The alleged project will follow 2018’s Scorpion, which featured songs like “Nonstop,” “God’s Plan,” and “Nice For What.”
As of writing, Drake has not commented on the reports. However, he did say back in June that he had been working on a new album. He broke the news on Instagram, posting a series of photos along with the caption, “Album Mode.”
Drake had also said in April during a concert in London that he planned on putting out a new album so he could begin touring in 2020.
“I kinda actually started last night to be honest with you,” he told fans (via Rap-Up). “But I think what Imma do after this, is Imma go home and Imma make a new album so I can come back to London next year and we can do this again.”
Drake could have a sequel project on the way, too
In April, Drake teased a follow-up to 2015’s What a Time to Be Alive, a collaborative project with Future. The rappers toyed with the idea in an Instagram post Future shared on April 4.
“What’s that? We gotta cook that up. That 2,” Drake said, putting up two fingers. “It’s already cooked up. Top secret. Top secret,” Future added.
As of writing, Drake has not commented further on the potential sequel. But reports say that it will drop later in 2019.
What has Drake been up to?
Drake is seemingly enjoying some personal time. He’s reportedly been hanging with his loved ones, including his son, Adonis, whom he shares with adult film star, Sophie Brussaux. If you missed it, Drake confirmed that he had a son on Scorpion after his nemesis Pusha T outed the information on the diss track, “The Story Of Adidon.”
He also recently shared Care Package, a collection of random songs created throughout his career. It features appearances from J. Cole, Rick Ross, and James Fauntleroy.
Drake also put out two songs in June in celebration of the Toronto Raptors’ first NBA title. They’re called “Omertà” and “Money in the Grave,” and they’re currently on streaming platforms for your listening pleasure.
With any luck, he’ll give fans new music pretty soon. But for now, there are more than enough tunes out there to hold them over.
