EastEnders fans may not be so thrilled when they realise their beloved soap is airing later than usual on Monday night.

The show will now air at 8.35pm instead of 8:05pm due to Prime Minister Boris Johnson giving a live statement and update regarding Covid-19.

The BBC stated: "Due to the PM statement at 8pm (with BBC News Specials either side) tonight’s EastEnders is due to air at the later time of 8:35pm."

After sharing the news on Twitter, the official EastEnders account was inundated with replies from fans.

"What a f**king liberty!!" one person wrote, while another said: "WHAT? I AM MORTIFIED."

A third viewer added: "I’m sorry but #eastenders is more important, hope they continue to film during lockdown or I will cry."

And a fourth person said: "At least it’s on, that’s the most important thing cause #Eastenders fans need something to look forward to."

EastEnders fans were left devastated in summer 2020 when the show was forced off air after filming came to a halt due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

However, all was not lost as EastEnders: Secrets From The Square burst onto screens on June 22, offering fans the chance to revisit some iconic scenes.

BBC favourite Stacey Dooley fronted the show and was joined by several cast members who offered an insight into the show with exclusive secrets and what it's like playing their characters.

Executive Producer, Jon Sen said at the time: "Although the drama from Albert Square will be off our screens for a short time, we are thrilled that fans will have a unique opportunity to see from the cast themselves just what it is like to be part of EastEnders when they see Secrets From The Square.

"As the cast look back – as well as forward – we can relive some of their most memorable moments and to add a selection of iconic episodes into the mix means viewers will be able to get their regular Walford fix until the drama returns."
