Hollyoaks’ Cher McQueen (Bethannie Hare) could at last be set to pay for her sins, after Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) discovered what she’s been up to.

Cher, as fans know, has been manipulating and scheming in the hopes of getting Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) out of her and dad Sylver’s (David Tag) life once and for all.

The young woman wants Sylver all to herself, and therefore she’s been gaslighting her stepmum, and taking advantage of how desperately she wants a baby in order to destroy her.

But her latest act, which saw her kidnap Diane Hutchinson’s (Alex Fletcher) newborn baby in the hopes of pinning the blame on Mercedes, could prove to be her downfall.

The residents of the eponymous village all searched high and low for the missing baby in tonight’s edition (June 23) of the Channel 4 soap, as Cher, who’d snatched her, placed Eva beside sleeping Mercedes.

Peri, having popped round to dress Cher’s wounds, found The Dog landlady with Eva, and she came to believe it was her who’d abducted the baby.

Mercedes attempted to explain herself, arguing that she has no memory of kidnapping the baby, while Peri offered her a friendly ear.

Mercy, knowing what she must do, headed off to find to Tony (Nick Pickard), while Peri had a chat with Cher.

Given that Cher had only just recently opened up to her about how she feels Mercedes is in the way, Peri soon put two and two together, figuring out that it was Cher who stole the baby.

‘You need to come clean!’, Peri told her.

Cher, however, had no intention of doing so, and threatened to reveal that Peri stole hospital painkillers on her behalf if she doesn’t keep shtum.

Will Peri do the right thing and tell everyone what Cher has been up to? Or will she keep quiet to hold on to her job?

Hollyoaks continues Thursday June 24 at 7pm on E4.
