Corries most tragic deaths from harrowing tram crash to lethal drug cocktail

Oct 17, 2021

Coronation Street fans were heartbroken after the death of Seb Franklin earlier this year.

Seb (Harry Visnoni) lost his life in May after being brutally beaten by Corey Brent (Maximus Evans).

Corey and his gang had been mocking Seb and his goth girlfriend Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) over the way they were dressed and things escalated, leaving Seb dead and Nina in hospital.

It certainly wasn't the first Weatherfield death to have viewers reaching for the tissues.

Daily Star has had a look at some of the other tragic deaths on the cobbles – but which one had you tearing up the most?

Jack Duckworth

Weatherfield was rocked by Jack’s death in 2010.

The much-loved character (played by Bill Tarmey) died after a party to celebrate his 74th birthday, passing away peacefully while he was sat in his armchair listening to some of his favourite records.

In scenes that had fans in tears, the spirit of his late wife Vera (Liz Dawn) appears once he has died and starts talking to him.

Jack's spirit then gets out of the chair and joins her for a kiss and a dance around the living room.

Ashley Peacock

Poor Ashley was a victim of one of the ITV soap's biggest ever disasters – the 2010 tram crash.

The accident was filmed to mark the programme’s 50th anniversary and killed off both Ashley (Steven Arnold) and Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns).

Ashley had been out celebrating Peter Barlow's stag do when an explosion at The Joinery bar caused a tram to come off the rails.

He bravely tried to help Peter get to safety then a falling plank struck and killed him.

Hayley Cropper

Fans were devastated when cancer-stricken Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh) died after drinking a lethal cocktail of drugs.

Hayley had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2013 and underwent surgery.

However, things didn't go according to plan and she was later shattered to hear that she was terminal and did not have long left to live.

After one last Christmas with her husband Roy (David Neilson) she decided she wanted to end her life on her terms.

The pair talked things through and Hayley even ironed Roy's shirt for her funeral before taking the toxic drink and dying in her husband's arms.

Kylie Platt

Corrie fans were left reeling when Kylie Platt was killed off in 2016.

Paula Lane, the actress who starred as Kylie, waved goodbye to the cobbles because she was expecting a baby and soap bosses certainly gave her a dramatic send off.

Kylie had waded in to protect her pal Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) from Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison) and ended up getting stabbed herself.

As stunned viewers watched, she stared at her wound in horror.

Her husband David (Jack P Shepherd) races up and gathers her up but, in harrowing scenes, she dies in his arms.

Rana Habeeb

There was hardly a dry eye in the house when Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia) was killed in the factory collapse in 2019.

Rana's life was finally coming together and she was set to tie the knot with her girlfriend Kate Connor (Faye Brookes).

But on the day of the wedding she was at the factory and ended up being trapped in the rubble when the building came down.

Kate found out what had happened and made it to the factory in time to say goodbye, and in emotional scenes the pair even got to exchange vows as Rana lay under the rubble.

Brian Tilsley

Back in the 80s viewers were gripped when Brian, who was played by Christopher Quinten, was murdered.

The mechanic had waded in when a group of things started hassling a lady outside of a nightclub and ended up getting stabbed.

Sinead Tinker

Viewers were heartbroken when Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn) lost her battle with cervical cancer back in 2019.

Sinead was diagnosed with the illness when she was expecting her baby boy but later got through treatment and looked to be on the mend.

However, things took a dark turn when she found a lump on her neck and doctors told her that the cancer was back and that it was aggressive.

Soon afterwards, she died peacefully at home with her husband Daniel (Rob Mallard) and their son Bertie by her side.

In her final moments she told Daniel that she wanted him to move on once she had passed away, whispering: "Don't forget about me, but do forget about me."
