Eamonn Holmes and wife Ruth Langsford were joined on Monday’s This Morning by Sandra who made a plea to viewers after her African Grey Parrot, Chanel, had gone missing. Chanel went missing last year and Sandra pleaded with viewers to help her find her beloved pet once again. She returned to Tuesday’s This Morning to reveal Chanel had been found and after taking up another segment on the show, Eamonn insisted she shouldn’t return.
Eamonn asked: “What are we going to do to ensure Chanel doesn’t escape again?”
“She’s getting her wings clipped,” Sandra revealed.
Ruth wanted to know: “What does that mean? She can’t fly at all then?”
“No, she won’t be able to fly at all,” she explained before talking to Chanel: “It’s you’re own fault.”
The guest continued: “It’s for her safety and my health.”
“And that’s safe to do is it?” Ruth asked.
Sandra confirmed: “Yeah. They grow back so I’ll probably have to do it again but yeah.”
“Oh, I didn’t know you could do that,” Ruth acknowledged. “Okay well, listen, we’re glad you’ve been reunited.”
Sandra told the hosts: “I’m back to my positive happy self thanks to you all you lost,” as Chanel flew off.
As Ruth shouted “shut the door,” Eammon told viewers: “Thank you Tamara who rescued her, Maria who sorted everything out and most of all it’s been lovely meeting you Sandra.
“With all due respect we don’t want to see you again, okay. You or Chanel.”
While Sandra laughed off Eamonn’s comments, viewers took to Twitter to share their outrage Chanel’s wings would be clipped.
One viewer posted: “Pretty sure birds have wings for a reason? You know… to fly.”
Another added: “Wow.. bird owner of the year. The bird goes missing and she gets it’s wings clipped. Wow. #thismorning.”
“OMG Chanel’s getting her wings clipped. Jesus wept #ThisMorning,” a third tweeted.
Someone else continued: “Ooft clipping the wings??? Bit harsh why not be a more responsible bloody owner and keep doors and windows closed #ThisMorning.”
Chanel had gone missing at the weekend when the front door was left open and the parrot had flown out.
Sandra and her children had taken to the streets once more to find the bird but had failed until Tamara helped rescue her.
The 41-year-old broke down on tears as she explained how the bird had gone missing for the second time.
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.
