EastEnders viewers have been keeping a watchful eye on Gray Atkins (played by Toby-Alexander Smith) over the past year, ever since he killed his wife Chantelle Atkins (Jessica Plumber). In upcoming scenes on the BBC soap, Chantelle’s mother Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) is set to feud with her son-in-law as she attempts to meddle in his love life. If the pair get into a heated row, could villainous Gray become violent towards Karen?
Chantelle was killed by her abusive husband Gray in shocking scenes on the soap last year.
The abuse storyline came to a devastating conclusion when Chantelle told Gary she was going to leave him and he became physical once again.
In his anger, Gray threw Chantelle into the dishwasher, impaling her on a knife.
As she was bleeding out, Gray left the house to set up an alibi, going to the mini-mart and the Queen Vic.
He later returns to the house just as Chantelle takes her last breath and then starts to set up her death as an accident.
However, this isn’t the only murder Gray has committed as he also killed Tina Carter (Luisa Bradshaw-White) in December 2020.
After hearing that Tina had been spreading rumours that he had been abusing and murdered his wife Chantelle, Gray became furious.
He attempted to get Tina arrested, but when she confronted him about her suspicions, Gray got violent. After an altercation, murderer Gray strangled Tina to death.
Gray also took the life of Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami) earlier this year as he grew jealous over his relationship with Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty).
After a fight broke out between the pair at a train station, Gray killed Kush by shoving him in front of an oncoming train.
So far Gray has got away with all of his murders and no one around him suspects his guilt.
However, in upcoming scenes he’s set to spark a row with Karen, could he turn violent again?
Lorraine Stanley, who plays Karen in the soap, has revealed fans can expect to see an explosive fallout between the two characters.
The pair are set to clash in upcoming scenes when Karen tries to intervene in Gray’s love life.
She’ll encourage her son-in-law to reconnect with Whitney rather than continue to pursue Chelsea Fox (Tiana Benjamin).
Karen’s meddling will lead to Gray becoming furious with her, which is more dangerous than she realises.
In a recent interview, actress Lorraine explained how clueless Karen is to Gray’s true nature and hinted at what could soon be in store for the characters.
“She thinks he’s golden boy,” Lorraine explained. “There is a moment there where he really puts Karen in her place and it shocks her.
“I think she sees it as him just being stressed out, though. She thinks he’s not fully over Chantelle and she’s putting it down to that.
“It’s a moment that really surprises Karen though, for sure,” she added.
Lorraine explained that Karen will put Gray’s anger down to a simple moment of frustration and not realise the extent of his behaviour.
“She’s always loved [Gray]. In her eyes, he’s done really good for her daughter and I think it’s hard to see that darkness when you have a preconceived idea about someone,” the soap star told Digital Spy.
Could Karen being oblivious to Gray’s true nature put her in a vulnerable position?
If she continues to meddle in his personal life, Karen may become another victim of Gray’s violence.
Will Gray end up killing his mother-in-law? Viewers will have to tune in to find out her fate.
EastEnders continues Monday at 8:05pm on BBC One.
