The BBC will be kicking off the New Year with a searing crime drama for viewers to get their teeth into. Four Lives retells the crimes of British serial killer Stephen Port. The three-part miniseries comes from the minds behind Appropriate Adult and The Moorside with an impressive cast to match the poignant story.

Who is in the cast of Four Lives?

Stephen Port – Stephen Merchant

Actor, writer and producer Stephen Merchant shrugs off his funnyman persona and slips under the skin of serial killer Port.

Merchant is best known for his collaborations with Ricky Gervais on Extras and Life’s Too Short, but has become a star in his own right, appearing in Jojo Rabbit and The Outlaws.

Sarah Sak – Sheridan Smith

Award-winning actress Sheridan Smith has teamed up with Jeff Pope again after Cilla, The Moorside and Mrs Biggs, this time playing grief-stricken mother Sarah Sak who will stop at nothing to find out how her son Anthony Walgate was killed.

Smith’s impressive repertoire spans stage and screen with some of her most notable roles including Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, Funny Girl, Gavin & Stacey, and Cleaning Up, among many other projects.

Kate – Leanne Best

Leanne Best stars as Kate, Sarah’s sister and aunt to victim Anthony. She is best known for Line of Duty, Cold Feet and Tin Star.

Some of her other credits include Young Wallander, Carnival Row, Close to Me and Home Fires.

Ryan Edwards – Samuel Barnett

Samuel Barnett portrays Port’s neighbour Ryan Edwards. Port lived in a flat in Barking.

Barnett is best known for playing the lead in Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, starring in The Prince, The Confessions of Dorian Gray and Penny Dreadful.

Adam Whitworth – Daniel Ryan

Daniel Ryan takes on the part of bereaved father Adam Whitworth whose son Daniel was murdered by Port.

The actor is most recognisable from The Bay but has also featured in Cold Call, Innocent and Mount Pleasant. He will next be starring in factual drama Litvinenko.

Donna Taylor – Jaime Winstone

Jaime Winstone plays Donna Taylor, the sister of victim Jack Taylor who is left reeling after her brother goes missing.

Winstone has appeared in Dead Set, Kidulthood, After Hours and Mad Dogs.

Jenny Taylor – Stephanie Hyam

Stephanie Hyam plays Jenny Taylor, Jack’s other sister who along with Donna investigates her sibling’s death.

Hyam has appeared in Peaky Blinders, Bodyguard, Stan and Ollie as well as Doctor Who and Jekyll and Hyde.

Rick Waumsley – Robert Emms

Robert Emms is Rick Waumsley, the boyfriend of victim Daniel Whitworth who is mourning the loss of his partner.

Emms has appeared in a myriad of roles such as Atlantis, Happy Valley, Chernobyl, His Dark Materials and Cleaning Up which also saw him star alongside Smith.

John Pape – Rufus Jones

Rufus Jones plays John Pape, the friend of victim Gabriel Kovari.

Actor and writer Jones has featured in W1A, Camping and Hunderby as well as Home and Little Princess.

Other cast members include Tim Preston as Anthony Walgate, Jakub Svec as Gabriel Kovari, Paddy Rowan as Jack Taylor, and Leo Flanagan as Daniel Whitworth.
