This Morning’s Holly Willoughby broke down in tears on today’s programme as Phillip Schofield read out a poem he had written in celebration of her 40th birthday.
The TV presenter, who wore her mum’s dress for the occasion, became overcome with emotion when her co-star was joined by The Pandemic Poet Tom Roberts and recited the heartwarming tribute.
‘As we wrap up this rhyme with a heart full of thanks,’ said Tom, as Phil continued: ‘For being there through good times and bad.’
‘She’s our brightest and best and moves us all through our screens,’ Tom added.
Concluding the poem, Phil beamed: ‘She’s the sister, that I never had. Happy birthday Holly!’
Holly was in tears over the piece and as she wiped her eyes, said: ‘Oh my goodness me, thank you so much! That’s so sweet.’
It was an emotional episode for Holly today as she also attempted to fight back tear whens Phil presented her with a sentimental cake made by Juliet Sear, which was a recreation of a cake she had on her second birthday.
Before unveiling the thoughtful bake, Phil showed Holly a picture of her blowing out candles in 1983.
‘I want you to take a look at this photo,’ Phil said. ‘Do you remember that cake?’
‘Aw, that’s me and my sister!’ Holly cooed, as she was taken on a trip down memory lane.
Phil then instructed: ‘Now, if you put your glass down for a second and lift up that box there but really carefully.’
Holly slowly unboxed the cake and was totally taken aback by the reveal.
‘Oh my God! That’s so nice!’ Holly said, prompting Phil to ask: ‘Oh God, do you need the tissues?’
‘I’ve got one here, thank you,’ Holly said. ‘Oh my God, how lovely.’
She then dabbed her face with a tissue as Phil proceeded to present her with more gifts.
This Morning kicked off today’s show by celebrating Holly’s big day, with pyrotechnics going off and sand brought into the studio to recreate a beach vibe.
Gok Wan was roped in and blasted music on the decks, while James Martin, who was invited onto the show to cook Holly a special steak, was seen raising a glass in her honour.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
