Kate Garraway opened up about her husband Derek Draper's recovery on Friday's GMB when she was joined on the show by coronavirus survivor Mal Martin.
The beloved 53-year-old GMB presenter admitted she felt "lucky" to be able to fight for Derek after he survived the virus.
Mal spent 61 days on a ventilator and had been given a slim chance of survival earlier this year, with his family being told to say their goodbyes.
The proud dad made a miraculous recovery, walking out of the hospital with his wife Sue by his side.
Appearing on Friday's show, Mal and Sue discussed his journey with Kate and her co-host Ben Shephard, looking to the future.
Kate revealed she had been following their story, admitting a friend had sent her footage of Mal's health battle earlier this year.
Her own husband, Derek, 53, has been hospitalised since March, with coronavirus having damaged his internal organs.
Opening up to Mal and his wife, Kate remembered the first time she heard their story, saying: "I was going through a similar situation with Derek and a friend set me a little clip of it and I thought oh my goodness."
Sue revealed they were adjusting to a new way of life, saying: "I'm really a full-time carer."
Relating to Sue's situation, Kate said: "You're like me. We consider ourselves one of the lucky ones.
"We've got the chance to fight for our loved ones."
Dad-of-two Mal has been left with issues with his liver, reduced eyesight and has lost several fingers to amputation.
Delighted to be back home with his loved-ones, he said: "I feel great to be home and to be with my family at home over Christmas.
"At one time I didn’t think I would come out."
At the end of the interview, both Sue and Kate branded one another an "inspiration," sharing in their experience of the virus.
Kate said: "You're both an inspiration and it's lovely to talk to you."
Sue replied: "As are you."
