Janette Manrara has been stepping in for Kym Marsh on Morning Live in recent weeks as the BBC show confirmed the presenter was taking some time away from her role. However, on Friday’s instalment co-host Gethin Jones revealed Kym’s father’s terminal prostate cancer diagnosis was the reason for her absence.
He said: “After taking a break following her dad’s diagnosis with prostate cancer, we’re checking in with Kym today as we hear how he’s making great progress thanks to a so-called wonder drug.”
Catching up with the presenter, Gethin later added: “Before we chat to her live, she wanted to share with [viewers] the reason for her break.”
Kym explained: “You might have noticed I’ve not been around much since the end of July – well there’s been some very good reasons for that.
“I think it’s fair to say the last few months have been ridiculously busy with one thing or another for me and my family.”
“Starting with the beginning of the year when I had my double hernia op which should have been much more straight forward than it was,” she continued.
“Then we found out my dad has cancer and then we caught Covid.”
