Michaela played the role of ADA Greylek for the one season of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, making an appearance in 13 episodes. The actress’ stint on the NBC drama lasted from 2008 to 2009 before she made her exit from the programme. However, there was a reason why the American star wanted to quit her role and Express.co.uk has everything you need to know.

Why did Michaela McManus leave Law and Order SVU as ADA Kim Greylek?

Michaela made her debut on the show in the 10th season premiere as her character took on the role of ADA from Casey Novak (played by Diane Neal) and her position was permanent.

Although she was credited in 22 episodes, Michaela only featured in half of these episodes, making her the shortest serving ADA in the show’s history.

It seems her lack of time on-screen led the bosses to make a decision about Michaela’s future as a cast member.

Although her alter-ego was one of the most aggressive prosecutors the Special Victim’s Unit has ever seen, showrunner Neal Baer didn’t think the character was resonating with viewers.

He made the executive decision to write Greylek out of the show but Michaela also agreed with quitting as she had challenges in portraying the role, it was confirmed to TV Guide.

Discussing the character’s exit, Neal said sometimes the role just doesn’t “mesh together” and therefore, stars of the show leave.

The showrunner told TV Guide: “She’s [McManus] moved on. Sometimes the part and the actor just don’t mesh. It was a mutual decision.”

Michaela added: “[It was] really tricky. This character has a lot of brainpower and her vocabulary is different than mine.”

Network NBC, which broadcasts the show, never commented on the actresses departure from the programme.

How did Michaela’s character ADA Kim Greylek leave Law and Order SVU?

The character of Greylek was written out in the season 10 episode entitle Lead and her exit came in the middle of a trial.

Paediatrician Gilbert Keppler (Lawrence Arancio) had been found guilty of molesting his patients and this was the last case Greylek was a part of.

Her last appearance was made when the ADA took part in a press conference on the investigation before she left the team.

Although, it was almost a mystery over how she departed as the team were called to the house where the doctor lived and discovered he had been murdered.

They thought the ADA was going to come in and go on one of her “I need to be at the crime scene crusades.”

Their jaws hit the floor when ADA Alexandra Cabot (Stephanie March) walked up to the house and she was the one to disclose where Greylek had gone.

The new ADA told her colleagues Michaela’s character had been called back to the team she was working with in Washington D.C.

Greylek was returning to rejoin the Justice Department but ever since the character has barely been mentioned.

Since leaving Law and Order SVU, Michaela has gone on to star in a number of other police-centred dramas in America.

The actress took on the role of Caroline Berston in CSI: Miami and she also starred in an episode of Hawaii Five-0 as DA Roberts.

She also featured in an instalment of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation as Kelly Nivens and was also a part of the cast of SEAL team.

From 2017 to 2018, she played the recurring role of Alana Hayes in 10 episodes of the drama.

Law and Order: Special Victims Unit season 23 and Law and Order: Organized Crime season 2 premiere on Thursday, September 23 on NBC.
