LILY Allen says her parents – including actor dad Keith Allen – were not happy about her rise to international superstardom.

The Smile singer was adamant she was always going to be famous "no matter what", even if she hadn't grown up in the shadow of a beloved actor.

"I needed to be seen. I had spent my whole life being part of this scene of really impressive people and everyone else being prioritised over me," she told The Recovery podcast.

Her dad Keith is a Welsh actor who is currently starring in ITV drama, The Pembrokeshire Murders, while mum Alison Owen is a film producer.

Lily claimed they "resented my success" and they
"made a sacrifice of really being parents because they had important things to do in the world".

"As a kid – you know – that was really difficult dynamic to get my head around," she explained.

"I think that also my parents.. not my mum but maybe my dad…was like… pissed off that they kind of given me the short straw as a kid and then against all odds I had kind of like gone 'fuck off' and done even better than them."

The singer hypothesised that her parents may have thought, 'this isn’t fair. We didn’t give you the childhood you deserve and we expected you to fail as a result yet here you are having exceeded all our expectations'.

"All i wanted was affirmation and praise and I didn’t even get it then," she said.

"I got it from strangers but not the people i wanted it from. In fact i was met by a bit of resentment from those people."

To cope with not getting that attention from her family, Lily "buried my head with drugs and alcohol but I was just really sad".

"I love my dad dearly and i don't want to badmouth him and say 'haha i did better than you'," she said.

In the explosive chat, Lily also opened up about becoming addicted to adderall as she felt insecure while supporting Miley Cyrus on tour – who she felt was younger and prettier than her.

She said: “I got married when I was 24 and I had a baby and a baby who died ten years ago this month and went on to have two babies.

“Six months after my youngest was born we ran out of money and had to go out on the road again and I was 14 stone and did not feel like a pop star at all.

“I started taking this drug called adderall which is like speed to lose the weight and then I got addicted to this drug cause it made me feel invincible and I could work long hours.

“Then I ended up on tour in America supporting Miley Cyrus and it was a highly sexualised tour and I’d spent the last three years pushing babies out.

“I was supporting this girl who was much younger and more attractive than I felt and I just started acting out in all manner of ways.”

Lily has previously revealed she cheated on her husband Sam Cooper during the tour, including with female escorts.

Mum of two Lily, who married actor David Harbour in Las Vegas last year, said: “I started cheating on my husband and I had always drunk alcohol to take the edge off the drugs.

"Then I realised I was going into the mini bar and drinking the mini bottles of vodka and without the drugs.

“I was in LA and thinking, ‘None of this acting out is working anymore. Maybe I should try heroin’.

"But because I had seen what happens to people who have taken heroin I knew it was time to confront whatever it was and my demons.”
