Nadia Sawalha was furious with Boris Johnson during Thursday’s edition of Loose Women following the Downing Street party scandal. The Prime Minister apologised during PMQs on Wednesday after weeks of denying he had attended events during lockdowns, but the Loose Women regular didn’t think his statement was enough.

Sawalha erupted at Johnson after what has been dubbed a “half-hearted” apology for attending a lockdown party in May 2020.

Johnson attended the gathering with his wife Carrie, though he claimed it was a “socially-distanced work event”.

The Loose Women panel weren’t convinced by his apology, and Sawalha pointed out the PM’s hypocritical actions during the height of the coronavirus pandemic’s first lockdown.

She fumed: “He stood on the doorstep of Number 10 the next day after that party and clapped the NHS!”

Many Britons have been particularly angry with the PM and Tory MPs as they were unable to spend time with dying loved ones while the Downing Street event took place.

As Johnson spent time with multiple Tory ministers, official lockdown rules at the time stated only two individuals were able to meet outside.

Funerals could take place, but hundreds of people were left to make the difficult decision of which relatives could attend the strictly limited services while up to 30 people illegally gathered in the Downing Street garden.

“What does that feel like to the NHS workers that know that now?” Sawalha demanded. “And the people that couldn’t get in to see their people in ICU.”

“And couldn’t even speak to them on the phone or see them on the iPad?”

Her fellow panelists, which included Charlene White, Linda Robson and Carol McGiffin, tried to interject.

However, Sawalha reiterated: “He clapped for the NHS! The day after that party!”

The presenter went on to encourage the panel and ITV viewers not to suppress their frustration with Johnson and Conservative members who attended.

“That’s why it’s so important that we don’t lose our anger about this party,” she continued.

“They want to kick this can down the road. They’re hoping by the time the investigation comes out we’re all going to be saying ‘Oh, we’re not all still going on at the party?’”

“This party shows us how they think of us, and how they’ve treated us.”

McGiffin agreed: “They’ve got to direct their anger in the right direction.

“It’s going to make people realise they can never do this to us again.

“They can’t do it because we’re not going to let them get away with it.”

Members of Johnson’s own party have since urged the PM to resign, but there has been no official update as of yet.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12:30pm on ITV.
