NCIS actor Brian Dietzen has been portraying chief medical examiner Jimmy Palmer since the very first series. He has quickly become a favourite of many CBS viewers who have been delighted to still see him in the show, despite the ever-changing cast. The actor was particularly happy recently when he welcomed back a familiar face on set.

Brian Dietzen enjoyed a career milestone this month as he announced he had written his first script for NCIS.

Having played Jimmy Palmer for 18 years, this is the first time Dietzen has done work behind the camera.

Sharing the good news on Instagram with a picture of himself holding up the script, Dietzen said: “We jump into filming this bad boy after the Thanksgiving weekend, and I couldn’t be more excited.

“It’s my first time writing for the show, and it’s been a great experience.”

With Dietzen in control of what happens in this particular episode, he wanted to bring back a character.

This was none other than actress Meredith Eaton who portrayed Carol Wilson, a researcher at the Centre for Disease Control.

She has been seen on-and-off in the police procedural for several years, last appearing in the season 11 episode Homesick.

Eaton also popped up in spin-off show NCIS New Orleans in the series one instalment Carrier.

Dietzen shared a picture of himself with Eaton on Instagram to let fans know of her return.

He wrote: “Sometimes you get to write something for TV.

“And sometimes that means you get to hang out with friends you haven’t seen in far too long. So happy you’re here”.

Dietzen is behind season 19, episode 13 of NCIS which is expected to come out in early 2022.

So it won’t be too long before fans get to see Eaton reprise her role as Carol.

As well as being an ally of NCIS, Carol is also a lifelong friend of former forensic expert Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette).

With Carol back on the show, should fans expect an update on what Abby is now up to?

Their friendship isn’t only for the small screen either as Eaton and Perrette are close in real life.

Perrette was a bridesmaid at Eaton’s wedding and when it was their 13th wedding anniversary, the former NCIS star posted how she was “super sobbing” on the day.

NCIS returned for episode nine, Collective Memory, on Monday, December 6.

Sadly, fans are going to have to live without the drama for a little while as the show goes on its winter hiatus.

But there is no need to worry as NCIS is going to pick up from where it left off in the New Year.

NCIS season 19 will continue in early 2022 in America on CBS. A UK release date hasn’t been announced.
