Outlander is no stranger to keeping fans on tenterhooks for rather extended periods of time between its seasons. While fans affectionately branded the wait for season six as “Droughtlander”, the wait for season seven will hopefully avoid following suit. And judging by a new social media post by Jamie Fraser star Sam Heughan, fans may not have too long to wait.
It is worth noting that Starz is still yet to give the seventh season of Outlander an official premiere date.
However, the US network has confirmed it will arrive in 2023 and Sam has now taken to Instagram to reemphasise the news.
In his latest update, Sam shared a screen grab of Jamie and Claire Fraser (played by Caitriona Balfe) with the tagline: “Coming in 2023.”
Sam then penned in the caption: “Lots to look forward to in the new year! Happy Holidays all! @outlander_starz.”
While he stopped short of giving away a confirm release date, Sam’s New Year hint led some to fans to expect news episodes in early-2023 rather than later.
So much so, a number took to the comments to express their delight at the upcoming season’s arrival.
“I’m so excited!” @nikkibloomberg replied. “I’m about to watch the show for the third time. Jamie and Clare’s love is just UGH no words even come to mind, just a feeling.
“The show in itself is absolutely amazing. I’ve had the hots for ya sam ever since.”

Elsewhere, Sam’s Outlander co-star Sophie Skelton poked fun at the latest update: “There’s a new season?!!!!!!!”
While Shona Vertue weighed in: “FINALLLLYYYYYYYYY,” followed by a series of fire emojis.
“I. Can’t. Freaking. Wait!!!” @ambruhnayy added while @attybpm: “This is wonderful news! Merry Christmas!”
Although some fans pleaded for more clarity, as @giabudano commented: “Are we talking January or December? Specifics please.”

Outlander season seven is bound to be an unmissable event for fans given its doubled the length of the sixth run.
Season six only aired eight episodes of the Highland drama but the seventh has been confirmed to consist of 16 episodes.
This is the first time the series has adopted the episode count since its debut season in 2014.
With filming still ongoing in Scotland, Sam did share an update on how production was going at last month’s BAFTA Scotland Awards.
He told BAFTA: “Guys, we are working on the big bumper season of Outlander season seven.
“It’s going to be 16 episodes. We have… at the end of this season we’ll have shot 91 episodes – you better fact-check me on that.
“But yeah, we are working really hard to give you a new season.
“So we’re really excited for that to come out,” he signed off.
Outlander seasons 1-6 are available to stream on Starz in the USA and Lionsgate+ in the UK.
