Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) was forced to snap in a powerful EastEnders scene tonight as selfish Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) was so wrapped up in his own world, that a dismissive comment about coronavirus wound the hard working nurse up.
Sonia has been feeling the pressure on the ED with the pressure the virus is placing on the NHS and she was pensieve when she returned home after another hard shift.
Ian has been filling ill, little knowing that wife Sharon (Letitia Dean) is slowly poisoning him for revenge after the death of her son Dennis Rickman.
He called round to see Sonia and she agreed to take his blood pressure. But when Sonia admitted work had been hard, Ian compared running the Vic to working on a Covid ward, leaving Sonia affronted.
He went on to be dismissive about the virus as he talked about keeping business afloat and Sonia lost it with him.
Exploding that ‘people are dying!’, Sonia effectively channelled the frustrations of many who see people not taking the global crisis seriously.
The scenes will lead to Sonia feeling emotionally exhausted and burnt out and she makes a decision, which will facilitate a temporary exit while Natalie takes a filming break.
