Queen of the South was confirmed for a fifth season two years ago by USA Network. The fourth series was shown in June 2019 on the US channel and then dropped on Netflix earlier last year. Now, fans are desperate to find out what happens next.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Queen of the South.
Season four was one of the most tense yet in the Queen of the South series.
Not only did Javier Jimenez (played by Alfonso Herrera) and Randall Greene (Cory Hart) get burned alive, Tony Parra (Adolfo Alvarez) was murdered.
Following the death of his nephew caused by Teresa Mendoza’s (Alice Braga) man Javier, Judge Lafayette (David Andrews) wanted his revenge.
Of course, there was no better way for him to get it than to attack not only her but her loved ones as well.
Lafayette had planted a bomb in Tony’s car so when him and Teresa were inside, it went off.
While Teresa recovered from being in a coma thanks to the explosion, Tony was sadly killed.
This wasn’t the only shock of the season though as James Valdez (Peter Gadiot) returned in the final moments of the series.
After being missing from the rest of the latest season and with a bloodied shirt, James drove frantically to the warehouse.
He warned Teresa there was someone after her but their identity remained a mystery when the credits started rolling.
When is Queen of the South returning?
Going by every season so far of Queen of the South, it usually starts in June and ends around late August or early September on USA Network.
As the news of series five came in August last year, it was believed this was intended for the next season as well.
So US fans should already be in the middle of Queen of the South season five.
However, this schedule was of course mucked up by the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Newsweek, the cast and crew of Queen of the South started filming in early March this year with the plan of airing in June.
But as the country went into lockdown, filming studios had to put their projects on hold, delaying shows and films’ release dates across the world.
As of writing this article, Queen of the South has not continued filming for the upcoming season.
So it is now believed that the drama won’t be returning until sometime in early 2021.
But this predicted time frame is only for those in the US who have access to USA Network where it will first be shown.
Netflix only received the latest Queen of the South episodes this May so there was an 11 month gap between it featuring on USA Network and dropping on the streaming service.
So global fans could sadly be waiting until 2022 to be able to watch the next season.
Express.co.uk will update this article when more information on a release date is announced.
Queen of the South is available to watch on Netflix.
