Queen of the South is returning next week with the premiere of its fifth and final-ever season. Fans are bracing for something big to happen as they prepare to say farewell to Teresa Mendoza (played by Alice Braga) for the last time. And according to the latest teaser shared by the show’s official Twitter account as well as showrunner Dailyn Rodriguez, the first episode might kick things off with the killing of a known traitor.

Rodriguez took to Twitter on Thursday to share a clip with her followers involving Pote Galvez (Hemky Madera), Boaz Jimenez (Joseph Thomas Campos) and Teresa.

In the teaser, Pote can be heard saying: “Teresa’s safety’s the most important thing, cabron.”

He then points a gun to the head of Boaz, who is kneeling on the ground, looking up at Teresa.

“Say the word… and I’ll take care of this pendejo once and for all,” continues the sicario.

The clip was shared by the Queen of the South official account which captioned it: “

How far will Pote go to protect the throne?”

Rodriguez also added: “Pote is not messing around.”

Could this tease a killing coming in the very first episode?

Fans of the show have been speculating for a while that Boaz could not be trusted.

Boaz was introduced in season one when Camila Vargas (Veronica Falcon) was trying to form a bond with Manuel Jimenez (Julio Cesar Cedillo) and agreed to help his brother Boaz escape from prison.

Camila instructed James Valdez (Peter Gadiot) and some of his men to break him out while he was being transferred.

But things quickly turned sour as in series two, when Boaz overhears his brother speaking to Camila, who tells her if it wasn’t for their mum, he would have put a bullet in Boaz’s head a long time ago.

Angry and hurt Boaz concocts a plan to kill Manuel himself and take over the Jimenez Cartel.

During a family wedding, Boaz gathers Manuel General Cortez (Yancey Arias) and Don Epifanio (Joaquim de Almeida) to discuss business in a limousine.

Things quickly get dark and Boaz shoots his brother Manuel in the back of the head, killing him instantly.

While Cortez and Boaz had worked out the plan together, Epifanio had no idea Manuel was going to be murdered.

While Boaz got what he wanted, Epifanio labelled him a Judas to which Cortez agreed but said he was now a traitor, meaning they would be able to manipulate him as they saw fit.

At the end of season four though, Boaz is working for Teresa, managing her business in the Miami area.

It will be only a matter of time until he turns on Teresa too as he did on his own family.

As she tries to expand her business to New York in the upcoming season, it might be the case Boaz has already started dealing up the East Coast without her knowing.

Whatever Boaz’s plan is, Teresa is lucky to have by her side Pote, her trusted sicario sworn to protect her.

Queen of the South season 5 starts Wednesday, April 7 on USA Network.
