Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) is left stunned in Emmerdale this week, as Mary (Louise Jameson) comes out as gay.
Mary, as viewers know, arrived in the eponymous village several months ago, determined to make things right with her daughter.
She’s proven invaluable in the wake of Marlon Dingle’s (Mark Charnock) stroke, giving both Rhona and Marlon all the support they need during the tough time.
Mary bonds with Kim Tate (Claire King) on Monday (June 13), but a question from the Home Farm businesswoman evokes some painful emotions for the newcomer.
Subsequent scenes will see her come out to Kim – who proves to be a great support – as she recounts her story of a lost love.
Kim encourages Mary to come out to Rhona, but Mary’s not so sure if she’s ready for that.
She contemplates it, and later in the week, she bravely does just that. Rhona, however, doesn’t react very well at all, as she starts to question if her entire family was built on a lie.
Mary does her best to explain, but it’s clear that she’s hurt by her daughter’s reaction.
Rhona subsequently makes matters worse, as she outs Mary, telling the whole room that her mum is gay.
Will Mary be able to forgive her for this?
